Taj Mahal, Agra City

Agra, home to Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world is a major tourist destination in India. In addition to Taj Mahal, it has two other UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Agra Fort in the city and Fatehpur Sikri nearby.

Agra (English pronunciation: /ˈɑːɡrə/; Hindi: आगरा, Urdu: آ گرہ) is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, about 200 km from the Indian capital city of Delhi. Taj Mahal, a mausoleum  built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Made up of white marble, this mausoleum has immortalized Agra as the City of the Taj.

 Best Time: Agra is best visited in the months of October, November, February and March, when the average temperatures are between 16 and 25 °C (61 and 77 °F). The monsoon (risk of floods), peak winter (can be foggy & freezing) and peak summer (too hot) should be avoided if possible.
